    Hired Law firm 2023
Attorney Tim W. Smith can't be trusted. His flat rate style means that he takes a large sum of money and doesn't do the things he said he would do. He took my $5,000 and let my husband's attorney do all the work. Draft and file Marital Dissolution Agreement – didn’t do. Attend hearing to obtain Final Decree of Divorce; file any applicable local court forms necessary to finalize divorce – didn’t do. Draft and file Qualified Domestic Relations Order – didn’t do. He was extremely unprofessional and completely unhelpful. I basically did all the talking in the consultation meeting. I only knew what was going on in my divorce because of my husband's attorneys who did an excellent job for him. I did my own negotiating. Tim did nothing for me but got paid $5000 for doing next to nothing. He said he was going to refund some of my money but never did. The business person who referred him to me was shocked and embarrassed by his behavior. She was also shocked he didn't give a refund.

    Recommends this Law firm
Tim was fantastic. He answered my phone call immediately, no appointment scheduling necessary. He asked pointed questions about my medical bill dispute ($185 overcharge on DME that I never consented to take), didn't beat around the bush, gave concise recommendations on how to approach pending legal matters, and was honest in saying that while he appreciates my interest in retaining him, he does not think it's necessary in this case, because the dollar amount is so low. It's so difficult to find a lawyer like this today. I absolutely recommend Tim to everyone!

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
