Hired Attorney 2016-2024in 2016 I fell into some trouble in Nashville, TN. I am from Portland, Oregon and was stationed at Fort Campbell KY as a 19D Cavalry Scout back in the good ole days. Due to unforeseen drug problems that stemmed from various injuries in the service, I fell head first deep into a black hole that I never thought would EVER happen to someone like me. I now know, that legal trouble can happen to ANYONE. I met David Hopkins with Middle Tennessee Law in 2016 at the Warren County Detention Center in KY. My charges stemmed from federal theft, to 924(c) (Discharge of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime). I was facing a possible life sentence, to include a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison. David was kind, and thoroughly explained EVERYTHING to me that mattered. In something like this, generally you are scared to death for your life and David was really the only person I had that looked out for me in more than one way. Not only did he answer his calls 95% of the time, which let me tell you from experience is RARE. Most attorneys will see you when they NEED to see you, however with David if I called and needed to see him, he would come see me immediately. Not only did he treat me like a human being, he treated me fairly whether I had money or not. THAT was and is refreshing in an attorney. David Hopkins was the type of attorney that truly cares for his defendants. Matter in fact, he was appointed to me the first time, and when a new indictment came out regarding a 924(C) he actually volunteered to take my case. I fought my cases in detention centers around the country for over 7 years with David Hopkins as my attorney. He is not only my attorney, he is also a deer friend to me for having my back for literally 10 years. If you need a serious, experience HEAVY hitter criminal trial attorney, David Hopkins is your man. I would not choose ANYONE else. -KTH

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
