Hired Law firm 2020-2023**BEWARE** My experience with Vance Law Office was incredibly poor. They lost my files, were unresponsive, and I when it was nearing the end of the case Robin refused to present opposing council with verbiage that was a verbatim quote from what the judge actually ruled. Furthermore client privacy was violated when she sent me files including ACH account & Routing number from one client, also a completely different clients SSN and property agreement of another client in a packet of documents from my case. (Privacy of multiple clients violated) They were dismissive of the incidents and did not treat it as the security violation it should have been treated as. Based on the behavior I strongly suspect she made backdoor agreements with opposing council in hopes to get more favorable agreements with that individual in more challenging cases. She was forgetful and didn't remember prior conversations we had and advice she had given me at that time. I feel very strongly she advised me poorly in my case and cost me greatly in the modification of my custody agreement. In told she racked up near $20,000 in fees. Terrible representation in all possible measures.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
