Attorney Information
Overview
As an Amarillo native, Patrick Weir enjoys practicing law in the Texas Panhandle. Patrick focuses his practice in the areas of Oil, Gas & Mineral Law, along with real estate transactions and general business or corporate transactions. In 2012, Patrick earned the qualification of Board Certification in Oil, Gas & Mineral Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, becoming the youngest with that qualification in Amarillo at the time. As a Board Certified Oil, Gas & Mineral Law attorney, he is committed to the continued development of energy production in the Texas Panhandle.
Patrick’s Oil, Gas & Mineral Law practice includes the representation of clients involved in acquisition, development and exploration of oil and gas properties, the drafting of oil and gas contracts and leases, the preparation of drilling and division order title opinions, and the resolution of disputes involving title or lease issues, surface damages, sub-surface easements and royalty issues. His transactional practice involves advising new businesses on entity selection, resolving disputes between business owners, and assisting clients with the purchase or sale of a business, including drafting buy-sell and merger agreements. In addition, Patrick assists in drafting residential, commercial, and governmental leases, and resolving real property disputes.
Patrick serves as General Counsel for an industrial gas company that is currently expanding and acquiring assets in order to vertically integrate into all phases of that gas development process including exploration and production, midstream, processing and distribution. As General Counsel, he assists and advises the company in various matters including intellectual property, corporate governance, financing and securities, and negotiations of gas purchase contracts.
Patrick actively participates as a Director of the Amarillo Area Bar Association and is also actively involved in various other industry organizations including Panhandle Producers and Royalty Owners Association, Panhandle Association of Petroleum Landmen, Tulsa Association of Petroleum Landmen, and Oklahoma City Association of Petroleum Landmen.
Patrick and his wife, Mackenzie, are proud graduates of Texas A&M University. They have been blessed with two wonderful children. In addition to spending quality time with his children, Patrick enjoys golfing, skiing, coaching little league baseball and following his favorite sports teams. He is an avid Aggie, Dallas Cowboys, and Cubs fan.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
