My son had a family custody issue, Mr. Mahoney was extremely prompt, professional & courteous. He was very informative about the nature of the legal matter and maintained open communication about the entire legal procedures. What I can say as a father that was very impressive to myself, was Mr Mahoney also kept me informed with the proceedings of the legal matter although I wasn't a part if the case. In most cases, most attorneys wouldn't keep anyone who wasn't directly involved in the court proceedings informed, for that I was very appreciative. I personally would refer Mr. Tim Mahoney to anyone who needs an excellent family attorney who is truly a go getter. He definitely receives 5 stars in my book and is worth it. Thanks Ivey T Yancy Jr

Tim Mahoney recently completed my revised will and did a great thorough job, as did his assistant. Over a year ago Tim Mahoney agreed to do a small claims court case for me, and we are in the middle of it now. Tim is someone who will be honest and straightforward about the laws and court system, he knows well.

Tim, helped us with our legal issue. We are very grateful to him. He told us what to expect early on. The timing of filings was very important and he kept us on task for our best interest. His insight and his experience in family law helped us win the case.

Tim prepared mine and my husband's wills and associated documents such as Statutory and Medical Powers of Attorney. He and his knowledgeable staff accomplished this in a relatively short period of time, and now my husband and I can rest easy. As a side note, my husband and I have prepaid legal insurance through Texas Legal, and wills and trusts are covered under our policy. Mr. Mahoney is one of their "in-network" attorneys. I would recommend Tim Mahoney to anyone needing their wills prepared. Really nice guy!!

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
