    Consulted Attorney 2012-2024
Lorinda Holloway had me charged with harassment after I insisted that she and her wife make my mother whole. My mother and sister entered into an agreement where my mother paid half of my sisters house when she would have otherwise had to sell it because of her split with her prior partner who owned half the house. Mom sold her house in Houston and simply wrote a check to my sister Tracy Wittenbach thinking that she had nothing to worry about since Tracy is family, Tracy is her daughter. I get a call from my mother and she is in tears because Tracy has told her that she doesn't have anything in writing and doesn't own half the property that she had recently paid cash for, wrote a check for. I the older brother was furious and am still furious with the situation. I demanded that Tracy put in writing that mom owned half the house. She refused, told me that it was none of my business. Then I decided that her girlfriend now wife who is a very successful lawyer might be able to help me. And now that they are married she is of course could benefit financially if my sister steels mom's half of the house. I was very upset and demanded that the situation be rectified and was ignored over and over again. I decided to make things very public hoping that Lorinda who I had thought might have more concern about her reputation and less concern about taking advantage of our mother would help. Instead she refused to help and eventually convinced the Austin DA to have me charged with harassment. I was charged with harassment and made a plea deal after she and my lawyer had inappropriate contact and made deals behind my back.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
