I’m currently been coerced and bullied via text messages by Brandon Lee Starling. I won’t speak on anything regarding my case but he’s very irresponsible and unprofessional. He should be disbarred.

Brandon Starling broke federal law five times in a row — and admitted he’s been a lawyer for 20 years, which means he knew what he was doing. Instead of arguing the case on merit, he chose to bully, intimidate, and push illegal non-disparagement clauses — in direct violation of FTC regulations. Susan White, the managing partner, should have known what was happening under her watch. Now that they’ve all been informed, they’re legally required to report each other to the Texas Bar. This has been reported to both the FTC and the Bar. This law firm doesn't resolve disputes based on facts or fairness — they rely on intimidation and suppression. Consumers deserve better. Attached is a screenshot from a cease-and-desist letter he recently sent me, where he threatened to pursue $5,000 in court sanctions — falsely claiming a judge had granted him that in a small claims case. The judge did no such thing. This is a blatant attempt to intimidate a regular person who was simply trying to recoup damages for a truck fender their dealership destroyed. That letter is the smoking gun — he violated FTC rules by trying to enforce an illegal non-disparagement clause. And he claimed he’s been an attorney for 20 years, which means he knew exactly what he was doing. Susan White, the managing partner, should have been monitoring this. Now that they’ve been made aware, they’re required to report his misconduct to the Texas Bar. This has already been reported to both the Bar and the FTC.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
