Verified ClientHired Attorney 2012Jon Smith represented me in a dispute with my HOA a couple of years ago. I had consulted with a couple of attorney's previously and both said that we could not win and that it would cost $15k - $20k. Well, Mr. Smith saw clearly how the HOA was on the wrong side of the law and took on my case with optimisim. As we proceeded, Mr. Smith's professionalism and obvious superior skill was apparent. He VERY efficiently worked through the initial demand, follow-up, discovery, deposition, and finally a hearing spending only ~ 44 hours! As we went along, I was SO releaved to find him being so frugal with his time. And when I read the Motion for Summary Judgement (the written argument to the judge indicating why a ruling should be made in our favor), I could not believe what a work of art that was. Needless to say ... we won - and he even got me my attorney fees back. In my opinion, finding trust worthy attorney who is also at the very top of his craft is incredibly difficult to find. Mr. Smith is it ...

Verified ClientHired Attorney 2012In searching for an Attorney we were very fortunate to have Mr. Smith represent us. Nothing but top quality service and extemely helpful throughout the entire process. Always answered phone calls in a timely manner, he works very hard to represent his clients and he thouroughly researched our case. It was always a great comfort to our family knowing we could rely on his legal/professional judgments. Attention to detail, precise legal documentation, responsiveness, communication are well valued and appreciated.

Verified ClientHired Attorney 2012"Jon Smith represented me in a complex contract dispute. I was pleased with his representation because he had a clear understanding of the facts and the law and worked hard to bring about an efficient resolute to my case in a timely manner. Jon always kept me apprised of what the next steps were in my case and what outcomes I could expect."

Verified ClientHired Attorney 2008I am honored to be recommending Jon Michael Smith as a highly competent lawyer in my experience with him in dealing with foundation issues. I began having foundation issues on a Lennar Home the first year I bought it and I turned in my request for getting it fixed and waited for them to do the right thing. Unfortunately, I had to contact Mr. Smith to force this builder to do the right thing which was to fix our foundation. After years of working on this case, he was finally able to get a settlement that included our picking the foundation company we desired. He never even thought of giving up and I am so appreciative that I met him and got him to represent us. He was contacted around 2008 but we settled in 2012.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
