Overview
Respect for others is Kristy Banda's touchstone in her family law practice; especially respect and understanding of her clients. Kristy recognizes how emotional divorce and custody cases can be and she navigates these sensitive family law matters with compassion as well as expertise.
Kristy’s compassion and expertise in divorce and custody have been recognized by SuperLawyers. Kristy was selected as a SuperLawyers’ “Rising Star” from 2019-2022. Only 2.5% of lawyers are chosen for this honor each year, and Kristy has now received this recognition four years in a row.
Kristy’s approach is to understand the specific facts and complexities of each divorce or custody case and then to apply a tailor-made strategy. No family is the same; therefore, no approach to a divorce or custody case can be the same. Kristy understands the need to provide clarity and support for her clients. She offers strategies for the fight as well as solutions for settlement. She combines this approach and philosophy with passion and determination to achieve the best result for all her clients in divorce and custody matters.
Kristy focuses her practice exclusively on family law. She has a depth of experience, and not just with the run-of-the-mill. In addition to divorce and custody, Kristy has significant experience with complex property cases, including divorce cases complicated by multifaceted estate planning such as trusts and family limited partnerships, as well as divorces that require forensic accounting. Kristy is well-versed in international divorce and custody issues. She also regularly handles cases for LGBTQ+ clients and non-traditional family units.
Kristy’s courtroom experience in family law is significant and diverse. She has first and second chair trial experience, including jury trial experience. She also has experience in family-law appeals. She has appeared in court in family law cases in throughout the Central Texas and Texas Gulf coast communities.
Kristy has been with the firm since 2013. Prior to working at Diggs & Sadler, Kristy worked at the Waco’s Children’s Advocacy Center and Harris County’s Office of the District Attorney, Child Abuse Division, where she worked closely with District Attorneys, forensic interviewers, CPS and law enforcement to address important sensitive legal issues for child victims and their families.
Kristy received her bachelor’s degree from Baylor University and graduated with highest honors, Summa Cum Laude, from Thurgood Marshall School of Law. In both undergraduate and law school, she excelled in moot court and mock trial competitions. Kristy’s competitive nature drove her to excellence in volleyball at a national level in high school and college.
Kristy is licensed to practice before all Texas state courts and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas.
Kristy’s philosophy of respect and care for people also extends to her community. She leads many of Diggs & Sadler’s community service projects including organizing shifts at the Houston Food Bank as well as the firm’s work with Adopt-an-Angel. Kristy is a Co-Founder of Women of Law, a non-profit organization benefiting minority women in the legal community, and she serves on the Young Professional’s Board of Covenant House Texas, an organization that supports homeless youth in Houston. Recently, she became captain of the firm’s MS150 cycling team.
Kristy is the daughter of two veterans of the U.S. Army and so she spent much of her younger life traveling, which gave her a broader world-view that has enabled her to better understand and serve her international divorce clients.
Kristy lives in Round Rock, and has practiced her entire family law career in Austin, Houston, and in the central Texas counties and communities.
