Overview
Matthew L. Pospisil is an Austin criminal defense attorney and Senior Trial Attorney at Michael & Associates Criminal Defense Attorneys. Since being licensed in Texas in 2016, he has focused exclusively on criminal defense, representing individuals accused of DWI, assault, drug offenses, probation violations, and other serious misdemeanor and felony offenses throughout Texas. Drawing on experience gained from private practice, criminal defense litigation, and prosecution-side training, he provides strategic and client-focused representation in complex criminal cases.
During his tenure at Michael & Associates, Mr. Pospisil has handled nearly 390 criminal matters, including more than 125 DWI-related cases. His experience also includes defending clients accused of assault family violence, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, felony drug possession offenses, probation violations, marijuana-related offenses, and other complex criminal matters.
A significant portion of Mr. Pospisil's practice involves defending individuals accused of impaired driving offenses. His experience includes first-offense DWI, repeat-offense DWI, felony DWI, and cases involving elevated blood alcohol concentration allegations. He has handled matters involving blood and breath testing evidence, field sobriety evaluations, and other scientific and procedural issues commonly encountered in DWI litigation. He carefully evaluates the evidence, identifies weaknesses in the prosecution's case, and develops defense strategies tailored to the unique circumstances of each client.
Mr. Pospisil's commitment to criminal defense began early in his legal career. While attending South Texas College of Law Houston, he focused on criminal law advocacy and gained valuable experience through an internship with the Harris County District Attorney's Office. That experience provided firsthand insight into how prosecutors evaluate evidence, prepare cases, and pursue convictions, knowledge he now applies to defending individuals accused of crimes.
After earning his law degree, Mr. Pospisil worked alongside renowned criminal defense attorney Bill Habern, focusing on parole and prison law. He later joined the practice of nationally recognized defense attorney George Parnham, where he further developed his courtroom advocacy skills and helped secure favorable outcomes in cases ranging from misdemeanor offenses to serious felony prosecutions. His growing reputation as a criminal defense lawyer eventually led to his selection as Managing Attorney of the El Paso office of Dunham & Jones, where he oversaw criminal defense operations and represented clients in a wide range of criminal matters.
Known for his thorough preparation and commitment to client communication, Mr. Pospisil works closely with clients to help them understand the legal process and make informed decisions about their cases. Whether negotiating with prosecutors, litigating evidentiary issues, or preparing a case for trial, he remains focused on protecting his clients' rights and pursuing the best possible outcome.
Mr. Pospisil earned his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement Administration from Sam Houston State University in 2012. He received his Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law Houston in 2015, where he was a finalist in the prestigious Garland Walker Mock Trial Competition, and was admitted to practice law in Texas in 2016.
Today, Mr. Pospisil represents clients throughout Austin, Travis County, and Central Texas who are facing DWI, assault, drug, weapons, probation violation, and other criminal charges. Drawing on nearly a decade of criminal defense experience, substantial courtroom advocacy, leadership experience, and hundreds of criminal matters handled, he provides strategic, experience-driven representation designed to protect his clients' rights, freedom, and future.
