Overview
Ruben Cardenas is a civil litigation associate practicing eminent domain matters. His practice focuses on representing property owners facing condemnation and ensuring their property rights are protected.
A proud native of the small border town of Del Rio, Texas, Ruben learned early on the value of hard work and helping your community. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Studies and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government, receiving both degrees with high honors. During his time at UT, he was elected by his peers as the Moody College of Communication representative in Student Government and inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He interned for then-state Senator Sylvia Garcia, U.S. Congressman Lloyd Doggett, and Judge Robert Cadena of the 83rd District Court of Texas. During the Spring 2017 semester, he was selected for the Bill Archer Fellowship Program, where he had the great opportunity to intern at the Supreme Court of the United States in the Office of the Counselor to the Chief Justice in Washington, D.C.
Ruben received his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law in 2020. During law school, he served as Vice President of the Chicano/Hispanic Law Students Association (CHLSA) and Managing Editor of Notes & Articles for the Texas Hispanic Journal of Law & Policy. After law school, he served as a law clerk to Chief Judge Alia Moses of the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas from 2020 to 2022, where he assisted with handling one of the busiest dockets of any federal court in the country. He joined the Austin office of Marrs Ellis & Hodge LLP in January 2023. Ruben is licensed to practice in Texas and the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas.
