Overview

Sheila D. Brown is admitted to practice law by the State Bar of Texas and before the Supreme Court of the United States. Ms. Brown has more than 15 years of legal experience and focuses her practice primarily on estate planning, trusts, probate, and estate administration.

Ms. Brown received her J.D. from Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law. While in law school, Ms. Brown developed a particular interest in trusts and estates and pursued opportunities to gain practical experience in those areas. She served as a judicial intern with Harris County Probate Court No. 2, where she gained firsthand exposure to probate proceedings, estate administration, fiduciary responsibilities, and related legal issues.

Prior to joining McClimon Law, Ms. Brown operated an estate planning practice representing individuals and families in matters involving wills, revocable trusts, powers of attorney, advance directives, beneficiary designations, and other estate planning needs. Ms. Brown is a member of WealthCounsel and has extensive experience using its resources to develop comprehensive estate plans tailored to each client’s circumstances. Her work has included advising clients regarding wealth transfer, incapacity planning, and the distribution of assets.

Ms. Brown also practiced personal injury law and worked on complex litigation and document review matters, obtaining substantial experience in discovery, legal research, evidence analysis, negotiation, and client advocacy. This broader legal and litigation background informs her approach to estate planning and probate matters.

At McClimon Law, Ms. Brown handles a broad range of estate planning and probate matters, including wills and trusts, estate administration, probate proceedings, and related real property and title issues. She also provides legal research, document analysis, and other support in probate litigation matters involving complex family circumstances, fiduciary responsibilities, and asset protection considerations.

Ms. Brown’s philosophy on the practice of estate planning is that an effective plan begins with understanding each client’s family, assets, goals, and concerns. She believes each client’s circumstances require individual attention and practical solutions, whether the client is planning for the future, preparing for potential incapacity, or navigating the administration of a loved one’s estate. Ms. Brown takes a thoughtful, responsive approach to helping clients protect what matters most.

In addition to her representation of clients, Ms. Brown has participated in community estate planning initiatives, including the Houston Bar Association’s Will-A-Thon.

In her free time, Ms. Brown enjoys writing, reading historical fiction, visiting museums, and spending time with her family. She has a longstanding appreciation for history and the stories that shape families and communities.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
