I worked with the younger female Sanchez attorney who is out of the same office. I payed her 350$ to clarify a document for me and her or her office never made an outgoing email or phone call to me. One month since our last contact passed and I asked for my money back; she got upset and produced 2 e-mails that she had sent on my behalf and said she needs to be payed for the work she did. I think she just forgot about me. Also the first and really only phone call I had with her she was attempting to make contact with the city of Laguna vista and my property is not even in Laguna vista it's in Cameron county. I don't even think she needed to contact the county she could have just read the document and clarified the terms of it for me and I would have been happy. For some reason I thought she would just be able to tell my what I needed to know because that's her business, (real estate) but it doesn't seem like she knows very much. Over one month never extending contact to me and not delivering her debt of service can not be justified, don't do business with her.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
