Verified ClientHired Attorney 2015I recently retained Matthew J. Hill and the wonderful folks that work with him to help me address a very difficult and hostile post-divorce property division and enforcement case that was filed against me. I can’t commend them enough for the extraordinary efforts and insights navigating my situation, and the professionalism and attention that they gave to me and my case. The process was very difficult and complex. During the entire period that we were dealing with this Matthew was in constant contact with me, I never felt abandoned or out of the loop, they communicated with me and stayed on top of things perfectly. I’m not new to divorce, custody, property settlements, or similar family law matters unfortunately. I have had some great attorneys along the path and unfortunately some really incompetent ones; Matthew rates right there at the top. He was efficient so that my legal fees didn’t run up and cost me more than necessary to successfully resolve my case. Matthew always gave me the sense that he knew exactly what he was doing, and that if, God forbid, we were to end up in trial, there was no doubt in my mind that we would have won our case in court. Fortunately for me we were able to resolve the dispute and arrive at an amenable resolution without going to trial. That is not an easy outcome to obtain against the odds that I was facing. Thank you Matthew, and thanks to your excellent staff for all their long hours and support as well. Long hours including weekends and evenings when necessary; hard to find an attorney that will go to those lengths these days. Extra hours may have cost me in legal fees, but the great outcome more than made up for that. I would recommend Matthew Hill’s services to anybody who would ask me, hands down! M.M.

Verified ClientHired Attorney 2014Mr. Hill went above and beyond for my cause as my court appointed attorney. His secretary Mickey was very warm and friendly during my challenging process. His other assistants were equally as polite and accommodating. As a professional he was an extraordinary attorney, if I had to pay I would have hired him without a second thought, and on a personal note he is an all around great person to have in a difficult time. I can not say enough wonderful things about Mr. Hill and his company, but that I was very grateful to have them in my corner.

Verified ClientHired Attorney 2014I would highly recommend Matt, Mickey and Karen for any family law case. They are very knowledgeable, resourceful, understanding and caring. Matt has very successfully represented me in two separate family law cases now, and I would go straight to him if ever needed again.

Attorney Information
Overview
During law school, and even before, Matthew Hill gained a broad understanding of the practice of law having interned and clerked for a Texas County District Attorney’s Office (twice), a Texas District Court Judge, a large Civil Defense firm, and for the Civil Division of the United States Attorney's Office in San Antonio. Upon receiving his license from the Texas Supreme Court, Mr. Hill struck out on his own and began his legal career operating his own firm, albeit on a much smaller scale than M. J. Hill & Associates, PLLC.
In June 2007 he began working for what became one of San Marcos' largest litigation firms. After three and one half years, Mr. Hill decided it was time to make a change and in December 2010 he left his former firm, and opened the doors to M. J. Hill & Associates, PLLC in January 2011 as the firm's President and Managing Attorney.
During his career Mr. Hill has been responsible for litigating matters in both state and federal courts on behalf of numerous clients. This includes spending over two and one half years very early in his career defending and litigating an alleged $20 million lawsuit in federal court, which was ultimately resolved in his client's favor. Having survived that “trial by fire,” he applies the experience he gained to the firm's litigation practice, whether a matter involves general or complex disputes, or appealing an adverse decision to the appropriate court. Mr. Hill has a unique ability to think outside the box, asserting novel legal theories and arguments, and his approach has proven itself time and again to benefit his clients.
Mr. Hill is a litigation attorney with a practice focus on family and divorce law. He also maintains a selective criminal defense and general litigation practice. Mr. Hill has experience in all phases of litigation and trial, ranging from the simple drafting of documents to arguing cases before courts and juries. He has experience as a trial attorney, has appeared and argued countless hearings, taken and defended numerous depositions, represented clients in dozens of formal and informal mediations, and his most recent jury trial was in March 2012. Mr. Hill does not like watching from the sidelines, he much prefers being in the game.
On a personal note, Mr. Hill was born in Casper, Wyoming, and lived in seven different cities all over the state since first moving to Texas in 1981. Mr. Hill personally experienced the difficulty of divorce in 2016-2017 and has a new understanding of what his clients go through. He now lives with his two children in the hill country between San Antonio and Austin. In what spare time he has, Mr. Hill enjoys spending time with his kids, participating in community events and contributing to local groups and charities. He also enjoys traveling and fishing with his children and extended family.
