WARNING! Read this before making a decision – You won't regret it! This attorney has a very low Google rating for a reason. Please read the negative reviews carefully. You can also verify his credentials on the Texas Bar website; he has a recorded Disciplinary History as of October 20, 2023. He was court-appointed as my defense attorney for a child custody case simply because he speaks Chinese. Since then, he has treated my case with extreme arrogance and unprofessionalism. I honestly doubt his basic understanding of Family Law. Key Issues: Absurd Legal Advice: He asked me to obtain daily records from daycares across multiple states from five years ago. He also insisted I bring character witnesses from Houston to Dallas for a simple hearing where such testimony wasn't even required. Failure to Communicate: He failed to notify me of my court date. He actually called me after the hearing had already started to ask why I wasn't there. Contradictory Instructions: In the first hearing, he advised me to stay silent. In the second, he claimed he told me to speak and blamed me for not doing so. Mockery and Bullying: When I expressed exhaustion and a desire to return to China rather than continue the custody battle, he mockingly replied, "Then go back right now, so we don't have to do this lawsuit." Zero Professionalism: He is habitually late, ignores emails, and his office staff never answers the phone. He even showed up to court in a completely wrinkled suit. Final Straw: Today, while appearing via Zoom, I requested the court to disqualify him as my attorney. I would rather represent myself than have him "defend" me. I usually hesitate to leave negative reviews for fellow members of my community, but I cannot stay silent. If you still choose to work with someone this incompetent, all I can do is pray for you.

Just a decent human being. I was being taken advantage of by my home-builder. My keys were held up, even nearly 2 days after closing on my home. Mr. Fan stepped in immediately, responding to each of my calls and providing real solutions. It simply felt great knowing Mr. Fan was ready to respond and to assist.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
