Overview
M. Andrew Stover grew up in Southeast Texas surrounded by a family deeply ingrained in the legal world. Both his father and brother are attorneys who later in their careers served as State District Judges for the 88th District Court and the Ninth Court of Appeals of Texas. His upbringing instilled in him a profound respect for the law and its impact on society and people’s lives.
Mr. Stover took these influences with him as he attended and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, Texas with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government. Mr. Stover then attended St. Mary’s University School of Law of San Antonio, Texas where he graduated with a Juris Doctorate. During his time in law school, Mr. Stover’s interest in criminal law and procedure grew. Motivated by a deep-seated desire for fair and equal justice, he dedicated himself to a career in this field.
With over 34 years of experience in criminal law, Mr. Stover has served as an Assistant District Attorney for the Dallas County District Attorney's Office, an Assistant Attorney General for the Office of the Attorney General of Texas, and an Assistant United States Attorney for the United States Department of Justice in the Eastern District of Texas. As an Assistant United States Attorney, Mr. Stover was responsible for the investigation and prosecution of federal criminal offenses, with significant expertise in white-collar crimes including bank fraud, health care fraud, wire fraud, mail fraud, money laundering, prohibited gambling businesses, gaming offenses, tax fraud, human trafficking, immigration offenses and asset forfeiture. Mr. Stover was also responsible for national security matters including counterterrorism, counterespionage and trade secret violations, violent crimes and gun offenses.
In handling these matters, Mr. Stover worked closely with the FBI, United States Postal Inspection Service, Secret Service, Homeland Security Investigations, IRS Criminal Investigations Division, Office of the Inspector General for Health and Human Services, Customs and Border Protection, DEA, ATF, Texas DPS, and the Texas Rangers.
Throughout his professional journey, Mr. Stover accumulated invaluable knowledge and experience which he now uses as a federal criminal defense attorney. As a result, Mr. Stover possesses comprehensive expertise in federal investigations and prosecutions leveraging insider knowledge across the spectrum of federal criminal law. Mr. Stover’s commitment to the principles of justice drives him to provide thorough and effective representation of his clients.
