Attorney Information

Overview

Sachika “Sachi” Denham-Hand is an eighth-generation Mississippian and the daughter of an immigrant. This dual heritage has fueled Sachi’s passion for immigration advocacy and justice for underserved communities in the United States.

Sachi received her Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Spanish from the University of Mississippi in 2018. She continued her legal education, following in her father’s footsteps by attending the University of Mississippi School of Law, where she obtained her Juris Doctor in 2021. To pursue further studies in international law during law school, Sachi studied abroad at Downing College, University of Cambridge, in Cambridge, England, and was involved with several organizations while in law school.

Sachi was also the Executive Editor for the Mississippi Sports Law Review, which deepened her interest in legal writing. During her final year of law school, she externed with the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES) in Dallas, TX, for nearly a year. During that time, she worked with unaccompanied children and adults in removal proceedings and pursued humanitarian relief. Immediately after law school, she joined RAICES as a Staff Attorney. Later, she became a Staff Attorney with the Children’s Immigration Law Academy (CILA), a project of the American Bar Association, before joining Chavez & Valko, LLP.

Sachi lives with her husband, toddler, and dog. She is passionate about animals and enjoys spending quality time with her family, gardening, being outdoors, reading, traveling, and creating art. Sachi has illustrated a children’s book and continues to paint and draw in her spare time.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
