Overview

J. Michael (Mike) Carrillo was born in Ennis, Texas and spent his first 15 years there. When he was a sophomore in high school, his dad was transferred to Decatur, Texas. Since that time, Decatur has been considered Mike’s home.

After graduating from Decatur High School in 1987, Mike joined the United States Air Force where he was trained as a dental technician. Shortly after joining the Air Force, Mike married Martha Patterson in 1988, and soon after they shipped off for Spangdahlem, Germany.

While stationed in Germany, the Carrillos welcomed their beautiful daughter Courtney in 1990.

Mike finished his last year of Air Force duty at Laughlin AFB in Del Rio, Texas, where he enjoyed fishing on Lake Amistad. Mike also spent some off time playing baseball in Acuna, Mexico.

After an honorable discharge, Mike and his family moved back to Wise County, where he would attend Weatherford College and the University of North Texas graduating from both with honors. While at the University of North Texas, Mike was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society, and the business honors society Beta Gamma Sigma. His next stop would be Baylor Law School in Waco, Texas. After Baylor, Mike and his family moved back to Decatur where he has been practicing law for over 20 years. Since being back in Wise County, Mike has been on the Decatur Chamber of Commerce Board, Child Welfare Board, taught CASA volunteer courses, sat on his church’s administrative board, picked up motorcycle riding and earned his private pilot certificate.

Mike is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and a Top 100 member of the American Academy of Attorneys. He also has memberships in the Family Law Section, Criminal Law Section, and Business Law Section of the State Bar of Texas. Mike has been a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association, Texas Trial Lawyers Association, the College of the State Bar of Texas, and the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and has also completed mediation courses through Dispute Resolution Services. Mike primarily practices Criminal Law, Civil Litigation, Family Law, Business collections, Business Litigation, and mediates Family Law and Civil cases.
