Hired Law firm 2020-2022Katherine Allen was court appointed and client paid. She pushed for a home visit ASAP for one parent and let 6 months go by before visiting the other (the alienating parent). She was only responsive to one party, biased from the beginning and even catered solely one child (there are 2 involved). While Ms. Allen was appointed, there continued to be denied periods of access (upwards of 70 denied communications). Ms. Allen (in my opinion) does not have the child's best interest at heart and is unresponsive regarding critical matters regarding cases. Even when presented with solid facts from government agencies, Ms Allen chose to ignore what was happening with the children.

Hired Law firm 2015-2017We wish we knew the Katherine Allen those five-star reviewers did. We did not hire her, she was court appointed. However, we still had to pay half of her fees. The position to which she was appointed had very specific obligations - to a child. Those obligations were honored solely in the breach. Were she in the military she would have been court-martialed under United States Code Title 10, Section 892, Article 92. Her behavior was erratic and overtly vindictive; it seemed the more unprofessional she became, the louder and more incessant her clamoring to be paid (for the unmet obligations) became. She was spoiled and conceited, and her behavior could perhaps best be characterized by a pompous air of decadence, intellectualism, and moral superiority. If we hadn’t been infuriated we would probably have been embarrassed for her. Life is never fair, and perhaps it is a good thing for the Katherine Allen we were exposed to that it is not.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
