Nikki Davis assisted my family when my dad passed away with his financial affairs. She was responsive and supportive throughout the process.

Ms. Davis and her staff guided me through the process in collecting insurance after my father’s death. She found the most cost effective way to avoid probate.

Nikki Davis and her firm are unprofessional, unresponsive, and simply put: rude. The woman who answers the phone at the front desk is abrupt and rude, while using the excuse of "Nikki is busy" to brush aside any concerns about communication. When expressing our concerns about her communication, Nikki's only response was: "I know I'm not good at checking emails." - Doesn't your job, as a person who represents people legally, require you to be able to communicate in a time-sensitive manner? If you want to hire a lawyer who will not respond to you then over-charge you for doing below the bare-minimum and waste your money and time, then this is the lawyer for you. Then, after we complained, Nikki started digging through her emails to try to prove that she had responded - even her shoddy attempts at proving any competence showed that she didn't respond to questions we had emailed multiple times. Absolute waste of time and money. There are other lawyers who will actually respect your time, communicate with you, and keep you updated in Houston, Texas. Go elsewhere if you want to be respected.

I regret you feel you had a negative experience. Unfortunately for lawyers, as with medical professionals, we cannot fully reply to public reviews due to the constraints of confidentiality. Although the review is anonymous, based on the aggressive and abusive tone of this review, I can identify the interactions with my staff and say with certainty that these quotes misrepresent our communications. My staff and I explained that I do not prefer email as "the best" way to communicate. Not only do most attorneys receive over 100 emails per day, but email alone prevents attorneys from developing a real connection with clients. Lawsuits with complex legal issues cannot be fully analyzed and discussed with clients via email. After 90 days of trying to assess the objective and needs on this case via email, I did not receive any reply and thought the case had perhaps been suspended. When you resurfaced, my staff offered to schedule a zoom conference to discuss the issues. My policy is for my staff to schedule a conference as soon as possible if a client calls and I am unavailable. This offer was met with anger. I have reviewed all communications and to date, cannot determine any questions unanswered or complaints unaddressed.

Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
