Attorney Information
Overview
María Uxía Miranda is a highly accomplished attorney whose diverse legal background and deep personal commitment have converged in the dedicated practice of Immigration Law. Born in Spain and raised on the Island of Puerto Rico, María brings a unique perspective and fluent bilingualism in Spanish and English to her clients.
She earned her Juris Doctor, Cum Laude, from the Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico. María began her career in Corporate Law, quickly gaining professional experience before establishing her own practice, Miranda & Navas Law Office, in her hometown of Guayama, Puerto Rico, where she served as Managing Partner from 2008 to 2022. As a highly experienced litigation attorney admitted since 2008, she successfully managed a diverse caseload and achieved positive results for clients.
Living in an impoverished part of the country quickly changed her professional goals. María began to expand her range by building alliances with non-profits to provide much-needed legal services, demonstrating her commitment to the community. This work led to her recognition by “Servicios Legales de Puerto Rico” and “Por Bono de Puerto Rico” for providing pro-bono legal services to marginalized Puerto Rican communities.
Following a life-changing event, her family relocated to Houston, Texas. Since then, her entire focus has been on Immigration Law. In this field, her true callings have merged: leveraging her extensive legal expertise and litigation skills to help people who need her most, making a tangible difference in the world.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
