Attorney Information
Overview
I, Pete T. Patterson, am a managing partner of Patterson, PC, a business litigation law firm here in Houston Texas. I am also the founder and former President of Capital Recovery Group, a real estate consulting business that served clients nationwide. I am Board Certified in Civil Trial PI Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Less than 5% of practicing attorneys achieve board certification and fewer hold certification in multiple areas. As of 2024, only 241 attorneys in the state of Texas were board certified in both fields.
I am double board-certified in both civil trial and personal injury trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Additionally, I have been a proud member of the American Board of Trial Advocates since 2008, having achieved the level of Associate. As of 2026, of 100,000 attorneys across Texas, I am one of 118 who are double board certified and a member of ABOTA. That is roughly one tenth of one percent of all attorneys in Texas.
I have been a perennial selection for inclusion in Texas Super Lawyers for 20 years. I have also been named to the Super Lawyers Top 100 list in Houston for 8 straight years. In addition, Best Lawyers in America include both my firm and me on its Best Law Firm and Best Lawyers list.
I received my undergraduate degree along with a double minor from the University of Texas at Austin, and my J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center where I was inducted into the Order of the Barristers. I was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1990 and qualified in the United States Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit, the United States District Courts for the Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas, and multiple District Courts throughout the United States.
During my career, I have had numerous substantial trial verdicts in favor of my clients, in matters as diverse as a $20MM Oil & Gas verdict to the reversal of a $57MM verdict in the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. I have demonstrated my abilities in many ways, earning numerous awards and legal distinctions for my advocacy as a business litigation attorney in Houston.
I was the recipient of the Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2001, and President's Circle Award 2003, as well as, the 1996 PIP Award from then Governor George W. Bush.
I have a long history of engagement with law, business, and civic associations. I am the Past President of the Entrepreneur's Organization, Neartown Association, and the Park Civic Association. I have served on several boards appointed by the Houston Mayor and City Council.
If you are looking for industry-leading representation from a business law attorney who adheres to the highest professional and ethical standards - always with a view toward winning your case - Patterson PC is the law firm to choose.
I am married to Martine Patterson, and we have one son for whom there is not enough hours in the day to swim at the Briar Club.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.
How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
