Overview
Samuel Long grew up in Newnan, Georgia with three brothers and two sisters who are all military veterans. At an early age, Sam was conditioned by a community that demanded hard work, service, and sacrifice—and insisted that failure was unacceptable.
After high school, Sam attended the U.S. Naval Academy where he played Division I baseball for four years and graduated with honors. In 2011, he was commissioned in the U.S. Marine Corps and selected as an infantry officer. For the next five years, he led two rifle platoons in combat and humanitarian assistance operations before being assigned to recruiting duty. It was these experiences that compelled his desire to go to law school.
Sam quickly figured out that battle in the civilian world was conducted in the courtroom and defending corporations was not his calling. Following an eight-year career fighting for the underserved, Sam knew he wanted to become a trial lawyer so, during law school, he spent most of his free time getting prepared. Since 2018, Sam has worked with Arnold & Itkin during the summers and while he was not in class. As a non-Texan committed to becoming a Texas lawyer, he spent his last semester as a full-time law clerk in the Harris County Civil District Courts.
During law school, Sam served as an editor of the Virginia Tax Review and President of Virginia Law Families. Based on his military achievements and career commitment to service, he was selected as a 2020 Pat Tillman Scholar. Sam is an Eagle Scout, black belt, violinist, and father of two boys.
When he is not working, Sam enjoys spending time with his wife and sons. They live in Houston and are active members of Second Baptist Church.
