Overview
Shannon Drehner was a long-time and experienced chief felony prosecutor at the Harris County DA’s Office. Shannon was assigned as a chief in the Special Crimes Bureau, where she prosecuted Organized Crime. Her responsibilities included the investigation and prosecution of criminals and criminal organizations across Harris County. Shannon was also assigned as a chief felony prosecutor to the trial bureau, where she supervised junior prosecutors. She also managed a docket of 1000 felony cases, from capital murders to simple drug possession.
Before rising to the level of chief felony prosecutor, Shannon was a chief county court prosecutor, where she managed the prosecution of misdemeanor offenses, including DWI, Assault, and drug offenses. During her time at the DA’s Office, Shannon was also assigned to the Family Criminal Law Division, where she prosecuted domestic violence cases.
Prior to her employment at the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Shannon was a prosecutor in Broward County, Florida. There, she rose to the level of lead felony prosecutor in the Felony Trial Division. While in Florida, she prosecuted DUI, major drug cases, and violent offenders.
Throughout her career, Shannon has tried over 80 jury trials ranging from DWI, drug charges, aggravated assaults, aggravated robberies, sexual assaults, child abuse, murder, and capital murders.
She graduated from Tulane University Law School in 2007. Prior to obtaining her law degree, Shannon obtained a Master's in Asian Studies and Languages at the University of Texas at Austin. Shannon earned her Bachelor of Arts in Japanese at the University of Texas at Austin.
Shannon is currently licensed to practice law in both Texas and Florida. Shannon is also licensed to practice in the United States District Court, Southern District of Texas. She is a member of the Houston Bar Association and the American Bar Association. Shannon also serves as treasurer of the Houston Bar Association Criminal Law and Procedure Section.
In 2024, Shannon was awarded a spot on the coveted Super Lawyers list, a peer review award published by Thomson Reuters. This award validates the outstanding work that Shannon has been doing for years and shows her dedication to her craft and practice.
