Shawn Staples - Houston, TX

Shawn Staples has spent more than three decades representing clients in complex, high-stakes litigation throughout Texas and across the United States. His practice encompasses personal injury, toxic chemical exposure, intellectual property disputes, and complex commercial litigation. Known for his analytical approach and technical proficiency, Shawn brings a unique ability to distill complicated legal and scientific issues into clear, compelling arguments.

Interestingly, Shawn did not originally intend to become an attorney. While pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of Houston, he realized that he wanted a career centered less on academic research and more on working directly with people. That realization led him to South Texas College of Law, where he earned his law degree and began a legal career spanning more than 30 years.

Since beginning his practice in 1993, Shawn has served as lead or co-lead counsel in a broad range of sophisticated litigation, including antitrust disputes, pharmaceutical product liability, industrial accidents, breach of fiduciary duty, trade secret misappropriation, patent infringement, oil and gas disputes, and toxic chemical exposure cases. His experience navigating technically demanding litigation allows him to identify critical issues, anticipate challenges, and communicate complex concepts in a way that resonates with judges and juries.

Despite the complexity and scope of his practice, Shawn approaches every case with a straightforward philosophy: regardless of the claim's size, every case is high-stakes for the person whose life or livelihood is affected. He believes effective advocacy requires not only preparation, precision, and sound judgment, but also a genuine understanding of what each client stands to lose.

Born in Missoula, Montana, Shawn comes from a long line of Montanans but has spent most of his life in Texas, with time also spent in Colorado and Virginia. Outside the courtroom, he is an avid endurance cyclist, logging nearly 10,000 miles annually and competing in demanding events such as the Leadville 100 and Butte 100.
