Yusra Khalid Soomro - Houston, TX

Yusra Soomro graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2020 with her Bachelors of Science in Accounting. She then attended the UNT Dallas College of Law, where she was the president of the American Muslim Law Student Association, a member of student chapter of Women in Law, and the student liaison for the Dallas Muslim Bar Association. During her time in law school, she advanced to a semi-finalist in her school's moot court competition and earned a CALI award for Immigration Law. After earning her JD from UNT Dallas College of Law in 2023, Yusra went on to work in the personal injury field, advocating for plaintiff's rights and negotiating settlements against insurance companies. During this time, she coached a high school mock trial team in Dallas, Texas and worked on the board for the Dallas Muslim Bar Association. In 2026, Yusra joined Spitz, the Employee's Law Firm, with the intent of passionately pursuing legal recourse for employees.

Prompt: Tell me about a time when you felt discriminated against, picked on, or bullied and how that impacts how you do your job?

Response: As a Muslim woman of color, child of immigrants, and first-generation attorney who grew up in Texas, I am no stranger to discrimination. While disheartening to experience, the bullying and discrimination I experienced shaped my perspective, strengthened my resilience, and equipped me with the tools necessary to fight for my client's rights. My background allows me to deeply empathize with my clients while maintaining composure to objectively and effectively provide legal counsel and advice.

Prompt: Why is it important to you to represent real people instead of companies?

Response: I became an attorney to give a voice to people who may not have the resources, knowledge, or ability to advocate for themselves. Companies often have extensive resources, experienced teams, and legal support to protect their interests, while real people can often find themselves at a significant disadvantage when navigating the legal system. I’m passionate about using my legal education and experience to level the playing field, advocate for those who need it most, and help my clients reach resolutions that truly make them whole.

Prompt: Who or what inspired you to become an attorney?

Response: As a requirement for my undergraduate accounting degree, I took a business law course and quickly fell in love with the idea of using the law to protect people. What began as a required course quickly sparked a passion for the law and, in particular, the opportunity to use it to protect and advocate for others. As a first-generation attorney, this was my first real and meaningful exposure to the legal field. This newfound passion, and the intense support of my family, fueled and inspired me to pursue a legal career and ultimately become an attorney.
