Her background has afforded her the opportunity to represent clients from various business, cultural and economic backgrounds. Ms. Barton has extensive trial experience, and she is not afraid to take on the most challenging cases. She has worked for all branches of state government: Judicial, Legislative, and Executive. She also practiced on the local level before transitioning into private practice. Her background includes an array of legal experience: she has practiced personal injury law, along with civil rights law, family law, legislative law, insurance law, and business law. Her past experience has provided her with the skills needed to effectively litigate for her clients.
Ms. Barton had the unique opportunity to become a briefing attorney for Texas’ highest criminal appellate court—the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. She clerked for the Honorable Cheryl Johnson. As a law clerk for the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, she worked on many cases in which inmates’ constitutional and civil rights were at issue. Ms. Barton also drafted court opinions that involved interpreting the U.S. Constitution, statutes, and policy. After clerking, she transitioned to the Texas Legislature. While there, she worked diligently on legislative issues and policies that had a great impact on various laws.
She has litigated cases in both federal and state court. It required major responsibility early on, but Ms. Barton never shies away from her duties. She has managed all parts of the litigation process, which included interviewing and deposing witnesses, managing multiple documents, discovery, partaking in thorough investigations. and analyzing key investigative reports for legal relevancy. She prepares every case in a proficient manner to be ready for trial. She is also a certified mediator.
Ms. Barton graduated in the top 3% of her class, with high honors, from Thurgood Marshall School of Law in May 2007, and became a licensed attorney in November 2007. While in school, she was on law review. Ms. Barton finds representing her clients as an opportunity to help those truly in need and she absolutely loves her job!
