Before founding Barnett, Howard and Williams, PLLC, Mr. Howard devoted more than five years as a prosecutor in the Lubbock County Criminal District Attorney’s Office. Mr. Howard was involved in every facet of Texas criminal law, but his primary role was as a trial attorney. During his time as an Assistant District Attorney, he tried more than fifty contested cases before Texas juries. Aside from trial, he handled countless plea negotiations and suppression hearings, as well as probation revocations and reinstatements. He also managed grand jury dockets and filed thousands of cases ranging from class C misdemeanors to first-degree felonies.
While Mr. Howard was assigned as a prosecutor to the specialty courts division in Lubbock County, he helped begin one of the first “re-entry” courts in the state. Through Freedom Court, he helped recovering addicts “re-enter” society after leaving inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers.
Accomplished
Mr. Howard proved himself early in his career as one of the finest trial attorneys in Lubbock County, rising quickly through the misdemeanor and felony ranks before earning the position of Felony Chief for the 140th District Court. His conviction rate at trial ranked as one of the highest in his trial division. Mr. Howard also assisted the Lubbock Police Department in cadet training for the Lubbock Police Academy. He was invited to and completed the Texas District and County Attorney’s Association Advanced Trial Skills Course in 2011 at Baylor University. In 2013, Mr. Howard was named as one the Top 100 Trial Lawyers for Criminal Defense by the National Trial Lawyers Association.
Grounded
Born and raised in a small, West Texas town, Mr. Howard was taught to love his neighbor as himself. Helping others is his passion and giving them his whole-hearted effort is all he knows. He loves God and his family. He also enjoys exercising and the outdoors. He and his family are members at Fellowship of the Parks in Keller.
