Overview

William B. Doonan is the founder of the law firm “Law Office of William B. Doonan.” Mr. Doonan made a decision early on in his practice of law to focus on family law and furthered strengthened that decision by becoming Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He saw the need for excellent representation in matters dealing with children, divorces and all the intricacies involved with such matters of the heart. Every situation is different, vital and deserving of detailed attention as the results of family cases have far reaching, life-changing effects on families and children. With offices in both Midland and Keller, Texas, Mr. Doonan is able to provide representation in all areas of family law to select client throughout the Permian Basin, Tarrant County and other parts of the greater Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Mr. Doonan has been admitted to practice law in Texas since 2009, and he is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit.

Mr. Doonan’s family law client base is largely comprised of people whose marriages are on the verge of termination. During this process, Mr. Doonan assists husbands and wives with child custody and possession rights, the division of community property, the preservation of separate property, the allocation of marital assets and debts, allowing for the past, current and future circumstances, and negotiating child support, spousal support and alimony. He brings personal attention to every case, advocating zealously for his client’s best interest. With a forceful and knowledgeable courtroom presence, he expertly guides and represents his clients through courtroom litigation when negotiations have broken down and mediation has not been successful. Many issues can arise post-divorce, and Mr. Doonan represents his clients in these instances, such as modifying a prior order, or enforcing aspects of a prior order when an opposing party refuses to comply.

In an effort to ensure his clients are adequately prepared for the future, Mr. Doonan prepares and reviews wills and other estate planning documents for his clients, which need to be revised after a divorce. He represents his client through the administrative process of probate filings, and offers guardianship proceedings when necessary. Highly regarded by his colleagues, Mr. Doonan has received a 10.0 “Superb” peer review rating through Avvo. How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
