Hired Law firm 2019-2022I had an extremely difficult enforcement case against an extremely stubborn ex. John and Conner worked to try to enforce directly against the other party but that did not happen so we had to go to court. I won and the other party is cooperating. I did feel that throughout this, I was counseled and advised the best course of action, saving money being one of the considerations. I highly recommend this team.

Hired Law firm 2019In May of 2019 I hired Mr. Haugens firm for a Modification & Enforcement in my family law case. By July of 2019 I had already spent 10,000 & not one order in place or modified. I contacted Mr Haugen &voiced my concerns he assured me I should follow through so they could complete my case with the desired outcome. I told Mr. Haugen as a single mother I did not have the funds to continue without final orders being in place. Mr Haugen assured me I would not go through the remainder of my retainer and my case would be complete even if he had to provide me with a discount. After the temporary orders hearing in July & spending over $15000 with no final orders in place Mr. Haugen refused to file my temporary orders until I signed a release or replenished my $5000 retainer. Now I am left to do my final hearing Pro-Se. No final order in place and a $15000 bill. The Haugen Law Firm LACKS the COMPASSION it takes to be a family law attorney. I WOULD NOT recommend this firm unless you want to be left to defend yourself and be more emotionally and financially drained then when you started. I should have released this firm prior to spending all of the money I had to devote to this case BUT I was promised by Mr Haugen himself he would at least complete what they started. And my money was money spent not on Mr. Haugen himself representing me but on an inexperienced junior attorney from his office Eric Bennett.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
