Eddie R. Mendoza is a former federal prosecutor and experienced trial lawyer who represents individuals and businesses in serious criminal investigations, prosecutions, and federal tax disputes.

Many government matters begin quietly—with an IRS letter, a summons for records or testimony, a grand jury subpoena, or a request for an interview. Others begin without warning, when agents execute a search warrant, make an arrest, or arrive at a home or business. What appears routine can quickly become a criminal investigation or significant civil enforcement action.

Eddie R. Mendoza advises clients from the earliest stages of an investigation. His federal practice includes matters involving criminal tax allegations, wire fraud, bank fraud, money laundering, grand jury investigations, federal search warrants, IRS summonses, large-scale narcotics offenses, and other serious federal charges.

Eddie also represents individuals facing state criminal charges in Texas, including allegations involving assault, family violence, DWI, controlled substances, theft, fraud, weapons offenses, and other felony and misdemeanor matters.

In civil matters, Eddie handles litigation in which federal tax issues are central to the dispute, including tax refund suits, injunction proceedings, and federal tax lien enforcement actions.

Before entering private practice, Eddie served as a Trial Attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice Tax Division in Dallas and as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Western District of Texas. As an AUSA, he led federal investigations, prosecutions, and trials, working with agencies including the FBI, IRS, DEA, ATF, Homeland Security Investigations, and state and local law enforcement.

In 2024, the DOJ Tax Division awarded Eddie a Special Commendation Award for his work in a complex tax-return-preparer injunction matter. Cases he handled have been covered by Bloomberg, Law360, Tax Notes, and The New York Times.

Eddie has served as first-chair trial counsel in multiple federal jury trials and has handled contested proceedings in federal and state court, including hearings on motions to suppress evidence and motions to dismiss federal indictments. Several cases he prosecuted were affirmed by the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, including one decided en banc.

Before entering government service, Eddie practiced in the litigation department of an Am Law 30 firm. He later practiced with a nationally recognized Dallas tax and white-collar defense boutique, where he represented clients in federal criminal investigations, criminal tax matters, and complex civil tax disputes.

Eddie has represented clients from all walks of life, including employees, teachers, healthcare professionals, small-business owners, insurance agents, entrepreneurs, and C-suite executives.
