Overview
William B. Doonan is the founder of the law firm. Mr. Doonan made a decision early on in his practice of law to focus on family law and further strengthened that decision by becoming Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He saw the need for excellent representation in matters dealing with children, divorces and all the intricacies involved with such matters of the heart. Every situation is different, vital and deserving of detailed attention as the results of family cases have far reaching, life-changing effects on families and children. With offices in both Keller/Ft Worth and Midland, Mr. Doonan is able to provide representation in all areas of family law to select clients throughout Tarrant and Denton Counties and the Permian Basin. Mr. Doonan was admitted to practice law in Texas in 2009, and has also been admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit.
Mr. Doonan's client base is largely comprised of people who are dealing with family law issues. These include divorce, child custody, modification, adoption, enforcement and all other family law related issues. During this process, Mr. Doonan assists his clients with child custody and possession rights, the division of community property, the preservation of separate property, the allocation of marital assets and debts, along with child support, spousal support and alimony. He brings personal attention to every case in advocating zealously for his clients' best interest. With a forceful and knowledgeable courtroom presence, he skillfully guides and represents his clients through courtroom litigation when negotiations have broken down and mediation has not been successful.
In an effort to ensure that his clients are adequately prepared for the future, Mr. Doonan prepares and reviews wills and other estate planning documents. How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
