Mr. Raul X. Villarreal was hired to represent me in a case where I have proof of 2 relatives conspiring to commit fraud an extortion upon my elderly father. Come to find out months after he took my case not only did he know 1 of those relatives that I'm mentioning but he'd known her husband too and use to go over to their home for dinners and special occasions. And since taking my case he told me he prepared a POA document for that relative to one of her grandchildren only to have my relative tell him she wanted her doctor to over look it before having it signed. WTH? * Major Conflict of Interest * Mr. Villarrreal does not return phone calls or follow up on serious concerns brought to his attention by his client. I believe he is jeopardizing my case and my father's estate. I went to inspect the case file at the courthouse where I saw 3 separate documents listing my father as deceased however this is not true. My father is still alive so I took pictures of those documents to bring it to Mr. Villarreal's attention but he had no interest in seeing it or going down to the courthouse to find out why. I'm at a loss for words and don't know what my next course of action will be. I'm just wanting accountability and transparency. Your Feedback

Villarreal has been appointed as attorney and guardian ad litem for a loved one. She claims he has been lying and filing groundless pleadings in bad faith during the guardianship proceedings. She also insisted that he has willfully ignored her living will and testimont, and has refused to interview her support network, including her primary care physician. These allegations were cooberated by several independent witnesses.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
