Attorney Information

Overview

After growing up on military bases in Japan, Bernie served in the United States Air Force as a "Tech Controller" who maintained telecommunication circuits for missile warning systems and intelligence networks from 1993 to 1997. He then entered the private sector, where he provided expert-level technical support on national and international broadband fiber optic networks for a global telecommunications company from 1997 to 2009. During that time, he attended the University College at the University of Denver, where he earned a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Telecommunications in 2004, and then law school at St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas. While attending law school, he worked as a law clerk for the law firm of Davis, Cedillo & Mendoza for one year, a staff writer and then articles editor for the St. Mary's Law Journal for two years, and a legal research assistant for Professor Chenglin Liu the entire time. He also served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Edward C. Prado of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and as an intern for the Criminal Appellate Division of the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Bernie obtained his J.D. and graduated number 1 in his law school class in 2011. He was inducted into St. Mary's distinguished Jon M. Harlan Society, an honorary organization that recognizes students who have excelled academically and graduated in the top 10% of the class. Once licensed to practice law, he worked at the Hanor Law Firm where he practiced intellectual property law and primarily civil litigation for plaintiffs and defendants involving claims of trademark infringement, copyright infringement, theft of trade secrets, and unfair competition. He joined ANG Law Firm (now A Nava & Glander Law Firm) as a contract attorney in 2013, where he helps clients with all aspects of civil litigation and appeals in state and federal courts. He primarily works on property insurance cases, personal injury lawsuits, breach of contract cases, commercial disputes, and construction defect cases. He is licensed to practice law in Texas state courts, and he is admitted to practice in the federal courts of the Eastern District of Texas, Northern District of Texas, Southern District of Texas, Western District of Texas, and Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Bernie has also worked at St. Mary's University School of Law as an adjunct professor since the Fall semester of 2012.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
