Overview
Kaytlyn Knowles is a San Antonio criminal defense attorney and Senior Trial Attorney at Michael & Associates Criminal Defense Attorneys. A former Bexar County prosecutor, she spent more than a decade as an Assistant District Attorney before transitioning to criminal defense. Her practice focuses on defending individuals accused of DWI, drug crimes, weapons offenses, assault allegations, probation violations, and other serious misdemeanor and felony offenses throughout Texas.
During her tenure at Michael & Associates, Ms. Knowles has handled more than 300 criminal matters, including more than 125 DWI and intoxication-related cases ranging from first-offense DWI charges to felony DWI prosecutions. Her experience includes defending clients accused of drug possession offenses, weapons-related offenses, assault family violence allegations, probation violations, and other complex criminal matters. This extensive criminal defense practice has provided her with extensive familiarity with the legal, procedural, and evidentiary issues that frequently arise in Texas criminal cases.
Before entering private practice, Ms. Knowles spent more than ten years prosecuting criminal cases in Bexar County. During that time, she tried more than 50 felony jury trials and handled hundreds of evidentiary hearings involving a wide range of criminal offenses. Her prosecutorial experience included cases involving drug crimes, violent offenses, intoxication-related crimes, and other serious felony matters. This extensive courtroom experience provides valuable insight into how prosecutors evaluate evidence, prepare cases for trial, negotiate resolutions, and make charging decisions.
In addition to her extensive experience handling DWI matters, Ms. Knowles has worked on cases involving blood and breath testing evidence, field sobriety evaluations, and other complex evidentiary issues commonly encountered in intoxication-related prosecutions.
Known for her courtroom experience and practical insight, Ms. Knowles works closely with clients to help them understand the legal process, evaluate their options, and make informed decisions about their cases. Her background on both sides of the courtroom allows her to anticipate prosecutorial strategies and identify opportunities to challenge the government's allegations.
Ms. Knowles earned her Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law Houston in 2012, where she won the Garland Walker Mock Trial Competition, demonstrating the courtroom advocacy skills that would later become a hallmark of her career as a prosecutor and criminal defense attorney. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, magna cum laude, from Texas Christian University in 2009 and was admitted to practice law in Texas in 2012.
She remains active in the legal community through membership in the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and the Texas District & County Attorneys Association.
Today, Ms. Knowles represents clients in San Antonio, Bexar County, and throughout South Texas who are facing DWI, assault, drug, weapons, and other criminal charges. Drawing on more than a decade of prosecutorial experience, more than 50 felony jury trials, and hundreds of courtroom hearings, she provides strategic, experience-driven criminal defense representation in high-stakes cases.
