Overview
Richard E. Hettinger is a Vice President and shareholder of the Firm and a member of the Firm's Pension Committee. He is Board Certified in Business Bankruptcy Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and the American Bankruptcy Board of Certification. Mr. Hettinger has served as the Estate Administrator to the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Texas and as an Assistant Unites States Attorney for the Western District of Texas. He was admitted to the California bar in 1974, the Texas bar in 1980, and is licensed to practice before the United States District Courts for the Northern, Southern, and Western Districts of Texas, the Northern and Eastern Districts of California, and the Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
Mr. Hettinger was educated at California State University at Chico (BA, 1970), and the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law (JD 1974). He is a member of the San Antonio Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas and the State Bar of California, and the San Antonio Bankruptcy Bar Association.
Mr. Hettinger has represented creditors including businesses of all sizes, individuals and numerous financial institutions, and major national banks in bankruptcy matters throughout Texas. In his practice he has represented creditors in all matters arising under Chapter 7, 11, and 13 of the Bankruptcy Code.
He has been successful in recovering creditors' collateral from many bankruptcy estates, which has allowed our creditor clients to recoup maximum value for their collateral. His expertise also includes assisting debtor and creditor clients with workouts to avoid bankruptcy through pre-bankruptcy workouts. He has represented creditors in bringing all types of adversary proceedings and defended creditors in preference and other actions brought against creditors.
