I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to share my experience regarding the legal representation provided by Richard zapata for David Matthew smith during their recent sentencing. I was deeply disappointed with the level of advocacy shown. It was concerning to witness that richard zapata did not speak or defend David during such a critical moment, which I believe significantly impacted the outcome of the case. Especially considering he was under psi and was supposed to have zapata speak positive for him but he didn’t say a word. Not only was Zapata misleading and telling David his client he would receive probation and that the psi would only be to discover what he would have to complete while on probation when that was not the case at all. Then to top it off I have text from the minor who was asked to speak during the sentencing well one of the victims because the other supposed two victims where not even contacted nor will they receive any feedback or response from anyone in the county because they wrote statements saying that what the courts where charging David with where false. Anyways the text said that the minor was told to say that because his grandparents don’t like the defendant David. This whole thing has been nothing but a crooked joke and someone has to stand up to these people!!! Anyways Mr Zapata I can’t get a response from you through anything so this is one of the last sources I will attempt to before taking a different direction and seeking help from another source whole is hungry and ready to ensure David receives justice! I hope my feedback can serve as a constructive insight for others seeking legal representation. Thank you for your attention. Best regards

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
