Attorney Information
Overview
Having extensive litigation experience as a public defender, city prosecutor, government defense attorney, and plaintiff's medical malpractice attorney, Paula has argued hundreds of court hearings, bench trials, and tried over 70 jury trials to verdict including serious felony criminal cases and serious medical malpractice cases. During Paula's diverse litigation career, she has represented many clients in criminal, civil, and family law settlement negotiations and/or mediations. Paula also has successfully represented clients in the Missouri Court of Appeals.
Paula's passion for research and writing was instrumental in her obtaining the prestigious legal role of Judicial Law Clerk after graduating law school. In that role, Paula researched legal issues and drafted proposed orders for the Court. Paula's Judicial Law Clerk role trained her to draft unambiguous and enforceable orders. Paula has considerable experience investigating her own cases, drafting and serving records and witness subpoenas, drafting and responding to discovery requests, preparing exhibits, exhibit lists and witness lists, taking depositions, reviewing documents, developing case strategies, drafting and filing pleadings and trial briefs, and managing the day to day tasks of a law firm.
Paula has compassion for ensuring parent's voices are heard to advocate for the best interests of their children.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
