Attorney Information

Overview

Roger A. Kraft has dedicated his career to helping people who are in real financial trouble. Prior to becoming an attorney and small claims judge in Salt Lake City, Roger worked his way through college as a morning show disc jockey for Arrow 103.5, as a truck driver for Pepsi Cola, and as a window washer for his own business. Roger grew up in Denver, Colorado and has lived in Utah since 1992, when ROCK 103 hired him to do the morning show in Salt Lake. Roger understands what it means to work hard for your money and he understands how hard it is to make ends meet these days. In addition to being an attorney and a judge, Roger is a husband and a father to 5 children. He understands the day to day grind of trying to provide for a family in today's economy. He understands what it means to lie awake at night stressed about how the mortgage is going to be paid, groceries will be bought, cars repaired and medical bills dealt with. Because Roger has "real world experience" he is able to identify with his clients' needs and is able to use his expertise as an experienced bankruptcy attorney to help alleviate the stress that comes with financial troubles. Roger has taught bankruptcy as well as lectured on bankruptcy matters in Colorado, for the Utah State Bar, and the Utah Bankruptcy Lawyers' Forum, and has been published in the Utah State Bar Journal and is the host of the nations number one consumer bankruptcy podcast, “Bankruptcy 101. https://www.buzzsprout.com/2130187

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
