It is my opinion Peterson Family law is not the firm you want to protect yours families estate. All of this information I am relaying is a result of the pour way peterson family law represented my parents and this my experience. The first thing I noticed is he misfiled the quick claim dead as a second home and that doubled the property taxes from $3000 to $6400 and my mother is on a fixed income and can not afford this bill. Which I believe is a result of incompetence. The second thing I experienced because i was the person my parents made responsible there estate, After my mom was declared incompetent Jared peterson and the peterson law firm failed to notify me I was responsible for the estate and my moms well being causing us to spend $35.000 for attorneys to protect my mom and her well being. And the third thing he is continuing to do today is after handling my parents estate he chose to take money from a family member to dispute the estate that is a conflict of interest. I feel he is using the ignorance of the people of Richfield Utah to continue to profit from my 88 year old moms loss of her ability to protect herself! Again it is my opinion the Peterson family law Practice out out of Richfield Utah will not handle your family estate with any professionalism or care for your family. As I go through the paperwork I will continue to add more to this review as I am sure I will find more mistakes and proof of incompetence.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
