Sharon Preston is the finest lawyer you can ever hope to encounter. Anyone who claims to have a problem with her likely has a lot of other problems in life. This is an attorney who, on her own time and dime, had a wrongly convicted man (whi had been represented by someone else) who was serving a life sentence freed - on a habeus petition. What other lawyer can claim such? She is just far too modest to ever toot her own horn, but I can tell you her work is second-to-none and exceeded only by her concern for her clients. She is as bright as they come, and little wonder she excelled as she did in mock court in law school. Her natural habitat IS the courtroom.

This woman will quickly take your hard earned money only to have her staff submit failed paperwork full of misspellings, wrong dates, wrong names, etc. Your case will be incredibly delayed thanks to such irresponsible, unprofessional mistakes. The only reason she will contact you via text or phone is to remind you of your remaining balance and demands that you aren't late. She mixes personal life with professional life using it as an excuse to not meet in person EVER. Also, to this day she still uses the pandemic as a pretext not to meet in person, even though a Zoom call, or any kind of video call would have been sufficient. Within almost a YEAR AND A HALF of handling my case, to this day she still refuses to see me in person, and my case isn't resolved. I think that for $4000+, anyone else or even myself would have done a lot more, and things would not have been as horribly delayed thanks to her unprofessional behavior as well as that of her staff.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
