Overview
Mr. Edgar R. Cataxinos has been practicing for more than 20 years, and is a founding member of Magleby Cataxinos. Prior to founding MC, Mr. Cataxinos spent 22 years with a patent prosecution and litigation boutique, acting as the managing partner for the last 14 years. Mr. Cataxinos' practice emphasizes patent preparation and prosecution and patent related litigation. Mr. Cataxinos performs patent and technology portfolio evaluations and audits for clients, and advises clients on intellectual property licensing, trademark cancellations and oppositions, and patent interferences.
Mr. Cataxinos has litigated intellectual property matters through trial and has successfully argued appeals before the Federal Circuit in patent matters. As co-counsel for life sciences company Ambry Genetics, Mr. Cataxinos successfully obtained a denial of Myriad Genetics' attempt to block sales of Ambry cancer-testing products. The Ambry case was the first test case after the 2013 Supreme Court ruling on gene patenting. The denial of the injunction was affirmed on appeal, and the case settled favorably. Mr. Cataxinos successfully represented a Fortune 500 agricultural company in numerous Ex-Parte Reexaminations, narrowing or cancelling patent claims, as part of a global strategy. Mr. Cataxinos successfully argued to the Federal Circuit for the reverse of a trial judge's claim construction and reversal of a jury verdict finding willful infringement by his client.
Mr. Cataxinos is a registered pharmacist with twenty years of industry experience in intravenous medications, pharmacokinetics, and general laboratory analysis. He has written in the area of Drug and Dietary Supplements and drafted model protocols for FDA approval of new drugs.
Mr. Cataxinos is listed in Utah Business Magazine's "Legal Elite" and Super Lawyers, both of which limit eligibility to only the top 5% of attorneys. He is regularly listed in the Mountain States Top 75 and Top 100, as one of the top 75 or 100 lawyers in all of Nevada, Utah, Montana, Idaho and Wyoming. Since 2007, Mr. Cataxinos has been listed in Best Lawyers in America, and was listed as Salt Lake City "Lawyer of the Year" for Copyright Law (2016), Patent Litigation (2015), and Patent Law (2013). He is also listed in IP Stars, and the iAM Patent 1000 (top 1000 Global Patent practitioners) for Patent Litigation & Prosecution.
