Attorney Information
Overview
Ken has been with the firm since 2001 and is currently a shareholder. He was born in Santa Barbara, California, but was raised in the Cottonwood Heights area of Utah. Ken graduated from Brigham Young University with both Bachelor and Master degrees in Accounting in 1994. He returned to BYU and graduated from the J. Reuben Clark Law School in 1998. During his time at BYU Ken focused on estate, business and tax planning. Ken is licensed to practice in the state and federal courts of Utah.
Prior to joining the firm, Ken worked as an associate in a small law firm specializing in estate planning and asset protection. Ken's legal practice focuses primarily on estate planning, probate litigation and business formation. He also represents a number of timeshare owner associations. He enjoys meeting people and answering their questions about wills and trusts, or business formation, with the hope that each person leaves more informed than when they arrived. Ken also represents a number of small businesses and advises them with respect to forming their business, reducing their liability risk and structuring their transactions.
In 2018, Ken was named as one of Utah's Legal Elite in estate planning by Utah Business magazine.
Ken is married with three children and loves hiking, reading and playing volleyball and wallyball (volleyball in a racquetball court).

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
