    Consulted Law firm 2025
I would give -1 star if I could. I had a consultation scheduled. I arrived on time, followed the instructions at arrival. He did not show up for the consultation, I send him a text message that I was present, did not respond, and he did not even have a voicemail box set up. I would not recommend you use him as a lawyer. He did not apologize and he did not even text me back, he called me 24 hours later b/c he thought I was a new consultation. I wasted time taking off work, gas money, and parking to meet with a lawyer who does not show up, and was not even apologetic. I agree with the rest of the reviews saying he is unprofessional. I should have gone with my gut feeling when he told me to arrive, and there was no formal intake or calendar invitation. It felt like he a one man show, and that is what I still think given he didn’t show up.

    Hired Law firm 2019
James is the worst lawyer I hired during my divorce case. As the court date approached, I've been looking for him 3 days before court date and he was busy at court working on other people's case. Finally the last night before the court date he started cramming on my paperwork at 5pm and called me at 8pm. While I was asking him questions about his calculation on that paperwork, he didn't want to spend time explaining to me and said to me "it's late and I need to go home for rest. See you tomorrow at court" and hung up my phone instead. The court date - I am shocked that he brought newspaper and novel to the court room reading while waiting for our case. Then the worst thing happened after that. I was so upset that he didn't care about his client, didn't prepare, didn't have any strategy. He chose the easy way and didn't do anything for me at all.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
