Hired Attorney 2021-2023Pilar is the absolute best. She is sharp, responsive, honest, genuine, and driven. I was so impressed with Pilar’s ability to remember the intricacies of my case that spanned almost two years. Pilar fought so incredibly hard for me and my family and our case outcome reflects that. As someone who has worked in the J&DR court systems across all of another Virginia, believe me when I say that Pilar is top notch.

Hired Attorney 2021-2022This firm gives all lawyers a bad name. My ex hired them for a custody and child support case and they were SO INCOMPETENT. Didn’t read documents I sent them and kept threatening me with taking additional action in our child support case which was not authorized by the court order, however they kept dragging our case out, didn’t bother to read ANY of my documentation which was complete based on the evidence order and they showed up in court and told the judge that they didn’t receive the evidence order because they participated on the phone vs in person. The judge had to check her records and told them that the order had been mailed to them. They just didn’t bother to read it. I also emailed a copy of it to them twice and they ignored it completely. Instead of settling our case back in May and saving their client money, they kept it going till mid July. They looked like fools in court. I would definitely NOT recommend them to anyone.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
