Attorney Information

Overview

Christine Mougin-Boal has called western Loudoun County her home since 1988. Chris grew up in a multi-cultural home and lived in New York, Alaska and California. She is a fluent French speaker. Chris graduated from Colgate University in Hamilton, New York in 1982 and obtained her law degree from St. John’s University School of Law in New York in 1987. She has maintained licenses to practice law in Virginia, the District of Columbia and New York but currently practices solely in Virginia.

Chris began practicing law in 1988 in Fairfax, Virginia with a civil defense litigation firm focusing on personal injury and medical malpractice defense. In addition to litigating numerous cases, Chris prepared the majority of all appeals to the Virginia Supreme Court for the firm.

In 1994 she and her colleague Rhonda Paice established the firm of Paice & Mougin-Boal, P.C. in Leesburg, Virginia. In 2004 Paice and Mougin-Boal, P.C. merged with the Law Offices of Joe S. Ritenour, P.C. to form Ritenour, Paice & Mougin-Boal, a partnership of professional corporations. The firm then became Ritenour Paice Mougin-Boal & Wexton in 2010 with the addition of Jennifer Wexton as a partner. Sadly, in June of 2013, Joe S. Ritenour passed away unexpectedly. On January 1, 2015 Ritenour Paice Mougin-Boal & Wexton merged with Hendrix Demetriades P.C., the Law Offices of Daniel J. Travostino and the Law Offices of Thomas R. Rock to form The Laurel Brigade Law Group.

Since 1994, Chris’s practice includes all aspects of domestic relations litigation, including child custody and visitation, support issues, property division and divorce as well as appeals of domestic cases to the Court of Appeals. In addition, Chris does adoption work and adult guardianship and conservatorship cases. She has been qualified by the Virginia Supreme Court as a guardian ad litem for both children and incapacitated adults. Chris has also represented injured plaintiffs in personal injury and medical malpractice matters as well as individuals charged with traffic cases. She practices in all courts in Loudoun County and has been admitted in the past to practice in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia and the federal court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

In conjunction with practicing law, Chris has been actively involved in state and local bar associations. She is a Past President of the Virginia Women Attorneys Association (2010-2011) and Board Member of the state VWAA Board (2006-2014). Chris was one of the founding board members of the Loudoun Chapter of the VWAA, acting as Vice-President (2002-2003) and President (2004-2006) as well as Treasurer on two separate occasions. Through her association with the VWAA, Chris has spearheaded various pro bono and community based events including the local Adoption Day Program for Loudoun County and Empty Bowls Projects as well as a state-wide conference in 2010 entitled Diversity and the Practice of Law: New Clients, New Perspectives, New Challenges.

During her time practicing in Loudoun, Chris has consistently participated in local bar activities. She has been an active member of the Loudoun County Bar Association and chaired a program in the mid 1990’s where middle school and high school students presented mock trials before local judges. Chris has also been the Treasurer of the Loudon County Bar Association and has been a member of the Board of Directors for the terms 1995-1996 and 2005-2006.

Chris has also devoted her time to Virginia State Bar activities. From 2006-2012 she was a member of the Special Committee on Lawyer Referral, a service designed to assist the public in obtaining referrals for local attorneys. In 2013 Chris began a three year elected term as a member of the Virginia State Bar Council, the body generally charged with the administration of the affairs of the Virginia State Bar. In 2013 Chris was invited to begin a three year term as faculty member for Virginia State Bar’s Harry L. Carrico Professionalism Class, the Virginia Supreme Court’s mandatory course on Professionalism and the Virginia Rules of Professional Conduct.

Chris is a partner in Marquis Investment, LLC. The Laurel Brigade, a former inn, was carefully renovated and restored by Marquis Investments, LLC. The Law Offices of Ritenour Paice & Mougin-Boal opened their offices in this historic site in December of 2004 and as of January 1, 2015, the Laurel Brigade is now the proud home of Marquis Law Group.
