Attorney Information

Overview

David is from a small town outside Chattanooga, Tennessee. He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a BA in History. A few months after Graduation, David, his wife Sofia, and his daughter Stephanie moved to Virginia so that he could begin graduate studies in History at the College of William & Mary on a full scholarship. While at William & Mary, David worked at the Omohundro Institute of Early American History & Culture, a publishing house jointly sponsored by the College and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. During his time at the Institute, David learned the craft of editing scholarly books and peer-reviewed articles in The William & Mary Quarterly, the world's premiere journal of colonial American history. He wrote his thesis on the community of frontiersmen who fought and defeated the British at the Battle of King's Mountain during the American Revolution and graduated with an MA.

After he left the College, David taught Social Studies in the Chesapeake Public Schools for several years. He had the distinction of winning the Teacher of the Month award for his very first month of teaching. (He's pretty sure that his Advanced Placement US History students stuffed the ballot box but a win is a win!) Though David thoroughly enjoyed teaching he became convinced that he had not realized his full potential so back to school he went, this time to study law at Regent University School of Law on an academic scholarship.

While at Regent, David participated in the International Law & Human Rights program in Strasbourg, France. After having David as one of his students in that program, Dean of the Law School Jeffery A. Brauch offered David a job as his Graduate Assistant. In that capacity, David assisted the Dean with scholarly research, editing, and also evaluated potential textbooks for the Dean's classes. David also served as a founding member and Book Review Editor of the Regent Journal of International Law and was also a member of the Maritime Law and International Trade Society.

David has experience in a broad array of legal matters. He worked on several high-profile cases in which millions of dollars were at stake. These included government contract litigation and a wrongful termination action against a local municipality, several civil rights cases, and defending a local resident who had been wrongfully targeted in a Fair Labor Standards Act case. Later, David expanded his practice and litigated divorce, support, and custody and visitation cases throughout the Tidewater area. He developed a reputation as a strong advocate for children in his role as a guardian ad litem in contested divorce and custody cases.

In 2020, David joined Weisberg & Weisberg, where he uses his fourteen years of experience in family law to help his clients successfully navigate what is often the most stressful event in their lives. Always a teacher at heart, David's goal is to help his clients understand their case in its totality -- strengths, weaknesses, how a court is likely to view the matter, and the long-term implications of the case. He finds deep satisfaction in helping people protect themselves and their children in the complex and challenging world of the legal system.

David and his family live in Chesapeake, Virginia, where he is very active in the church he helped found in 2005.

I’m writing this as a father who trusted the wrong person with my kids’ safety. If you’re thinking about hiring David Dildy, I’m begging you to think again. He was the worst decision we made during the most critical time of our lives. He didn’t just waste my time and money, he put my children in danger. At first, he acted like he cared. He helped us get an emergency hearing, and I got temporary custody. I thought we were finally getting somewhere. But after that, it was like he quit. He stopped pushing, stopped caring, and started making excuses. He didn’t want to fight for us. He kept saying things like he didn’t like conflict and even showed sympathy for the other side. Meanwhile, my children were suffering, and I had evidence to prove it. He ignored it. He let things keep getting worse and told us it would help the case. What kind of attorney says that? Every time I got on the phone with him, I felt like I had to defend myself. He wouldn’t listen. He told stories about history and the Bible instead of talking about our case. It was like therapy sessions with no point. I spent so many hours on the phone hoping for progress, and all I got was frustration. Nothing ever moved forward. He actually suggested sharing private information with the other side, like he was working for them, not us. When we asked him to file certain documents, he said he did...but he didn’t. He flat out lied to us. Because of that, we lost even more time and money, and our kids were still stuck in a harmful situation. The only time he started acting like a real lawyer was when we told him we were thinking about firing him. Then he tried to sweet talk us, but it was too late. He even convinced other people involved that the kids weren’t in danger, completely going against everything we had been saying from the start. I couldn’t believe it. And yes, his fees were insanely high. For all that money, I expected someone who would fight for us. Instead, I got someone who couldn’t even be professional. I’m not making this up....he actually peed while talking to me on the phone. That’s the kind of “representation” we got. We finally hired a new attorney. They charged a fraction of what Dildy did and worked twice as hard. Things actually started moving. We finally felt heard and protected. Looking back, I can’t believe how long we let Dildy drag this out. I still feel sick knowing how much we trusted him when he never had our backs. If you care about your children, don’t make the mistake we did. David Dildy should not be practicing law, especially not in cases that involve kids. He didn’t just fail us....he made things worse. I will never forget what he put our family through!

This could not have been a better and smoother experience, all things considered. David Dildy, one of the firm's rock-star attorneys, was able to take on my case with less than a week to spare. Not only that, but he exceeded every expectation I had for representation, short-notice or otherwise. He and his paralegal Jamie were prompt, professional, organized, and more than easy to communicate with. Most importantly, though, David approached me with empathy and patience that lessened the impact of finding myself in a contentious situation. While his mastery of the law led to a successful outcome, David's ability to make me feel like I was his only case put me at ease; his approach of providing counsel while embracing collaboration allowed us to put together a winning strategy. I cannot speak highly enough of David, Jamie, and Weisberg & Weisberg. Give them a call- there's no one else I'd rather have in my corner again!

David S.Dildy is not only an extremely good lawyer, he is also a compassionate and caring individual who took my case and work very hard for me. He showed me he is interested in the truth as well as the best for his clients. He responded quickly to my requests with answers he willingly took time to explain. He has proven that he is a person interested in helping and caring for the individual and not just making money. He advised me honestly and professionally making sure he was giving me his best all the time. A truly loyal and honest person I am glad to call a friend. An amazing lawyer. Highly recommend!!

Hired Mr. Dildy 3 year's every year we won. I hired Mr. Dildy again for the fourth time, due to the child's mom still not complying with the court order. That's when Mr. Dildy said we are going for custody, not knowing Mr. D’s strategy, we worrying, lordy I was. Once Mr. Dildy gets into the courtroom he is in a winning zone. We won our custody battle case, thanks to Mr. DILDY and the wonderful friendly staff at Weisberg & Weisberg law firm. To anyone that may be reading this review be patient, comply with the court order, write down the evidence if the other parties not complying with the court order, and try to get along with the other parties that are involved. It helps the child in many ways. A custody case is a very sensitive, draining, and overwhelming case for everyone who’s involved especially the child. I know this was a long review but it was well worth writing and hoping I can help someone else make the right decision in finding the right lawyer to represent them well in the courtroom. Will I hire Mr. D again? Yessssss I WILL!

Your Profile?  Update Now

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
