Maxwell Baker - Norfolk, VA

Attorney Max Baker was first licensed in North Carolina, where he went to work for Legal Aid of NC. He knew when he decided to pursue a career in the law that his focus would be helping victims. Max’s first years as an attorney were spent working to protect victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. He spent countless hours in courtrooms across the eastern district fighting to keep his clients safe and help them get control of their life back.

A born problem-solver and maybe even a risk taker, Baker enjoys the complexity of personal injury cases. He had the privilege of working alongside firm Partner, Adam Lotkin when he came to Rutter Mills LLP as a paralegal, while working on obtaining his Virginia law license. He was able to assist on some of the most difficult cases the firm handled, working with clients in a variety of areas like maritime, commercial trucking and motorcycle accidents. Growing up in Norfolk, Max is familiar with what life can bring here in Hampton Roads. As an avid rider of supermoto bikes, he spends his free time exploring the roads around Tidewater and carving out new paths. He understands the stigma often placed on bikers when accidents happen and advocates fiercely to protect their rights.

Baker is a natural athlete who achieved several wrestling titles in both high school and collegiate levels. At Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School, Max’s wrestling team made it to the Top 10 in the nation his junior and senior year. He continued wrestling during his undergraduate program. Recognized as an NCAA athlete during his time as a wrestler at Ferrum College, Max was also an Academic All-American, an honor given to top athletes who maintain high GPAs. During law school Max coached a Division III NCAA wrestling team at Greensboro College in NC for three years where he was able to pass on tools and techniques to a new generation of athletes.
