Attorney Information

Overview

Louise Zwicker brings a unique and diverse background to her role as Counsel at OFP, combining her extensive professional experience as a former licensed civil engineer with her current experience as a licensed attorney. With a solid foundation built over 18 years in civil engineering practice, Louise seamlessly transitioned into the field of law to continue to serve her clients’ land use, zoning, and development needs. She also handles commercial real estate litigation.

During her nearly two decades as a civil engineer, Louise excelled in due diligence, entitlement, design, and management of construction and infrastructure projects. Her hands-on experience allowed her to develop a deep understanding of the technical aspects of development, providing a unique perspective that she now applies to her legal practice. During her tenure as a real estate/construction lawyer, she has expanded her zoning and land use due diligence skills to include risk assessment, settlement and contract negotiation, construction contracts, and litigating zoning and construction disputes.

Known for her ability to analyze complex engineering, development, and land use issues and effectively communicate with owners, contractors, engineers, and government officials, Louise tackles challenges with a comprehensive understanding of both the technical and legal aspects of her cases. Her ability to bridge the gap between engineering and law allows her to provide OFP's clients with well-rounded, informed, and effective legal counsel. Her unique background is especially important in land use and development due diligence studies.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
