Overview

Michael C. May is a litigator who has represented clients in courts throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia in civil and criminal matters. He has experience in all manner of litigation, having represented both businesses and individuals as plaintiffs and defendants.

Mr. May is equally comfortable in the practice of business litigation, employment law, domestic relations/family law, and criminal law. He is licensed to practice in all courts in the Commonwealth of Virginia and is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. Mr. May is fluent in Spanish and has assisted the Firm in numerous litigation matters where such fluency has been required.

Not only is Mr. May a courtroom litigator, but he also handles numerous transactional matters, including advising businesses on corporate and employment best practices as well as government contracts and procurement issues. He has represented companies in bid protests adverse to the government and in negotiating employment contracts, leases, intellectual property matters, and purchase and sale agreements.

In addition to his work as an attorney, Mr. May spent nine years (2007-2016) serving his home community as an elected member of the Board of County Supervisors in Prince William County, Virginia. In both 2010 and 2014, he was selected by his fellow supervisors as Vice Chairman of the county-wide board. While on the Board of County Supervisors, Mr. May helped oversee the budget for Virginia’s second largest county of almost 450,000 residents.

Mr. May has dedicated countless hours to public service as a member of the Lake Ridge Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, Prince William Regional Chamber of Commerce, and appointed representative to his county’s Social Services Board. He served on the Prince William Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors (Vice-Chairman, Program and Ex-Officio Director) and as At-Large Planning Commissioner in Prince William County, advising the Board of Supervisors on land use planning and zoning law. He also spent seven years as Chairman of the Potomac Rappahannock Transportation Commission.

During his tenure in public service, Mr. May has been regarded as a tireless advocate for his constituents, and he brings this same passion to representing his clients, no matter how big or small their case.
